Alma Azul is a solar-powered boutique villa above the Mediterranean. Nestled within the beautiful hills of Mojacar, Almeria. 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, over 200 square metres of interior living space, up to 7 guests. THE HOUSE

Over 200 square metres of light-filled living space with four bedrooms sleeping up to 7 guests. Three generous doubles and one single, ideal for families, small groups or a wellness gathering. One master bedroom opens onto a private east-facing terrace. A second has a Juliet balcony. Both catch the sunrise over the Mediterranean directly from the bed.

The expansive open-plan kitchen and living room are the heart of the house, designed with unusually generous proportions that are rarely found in coastal rentals. The kitchen has a bar counter overlooking the ocean and a dining area with sea views. The living room has a reading snug, a curated library, a wood-burning fireplace for cooler evenings and direct access to the main terrace, also overlooking the ocean.

Multiple terraces wrap around the property at different orientations. The main terrace faces east, catching the full sunrise and the panoramic ocean view. Others offer shade in the morning heat and full afternoon sun. The whole house turns with the light.

Fully equipped kitchen, WiFi, washing machine, air conditioning in every bedroom so nothing gets in the way of the experience. 

OFF-GRID AND PROUD OF IT

Alma Azul runs on solar power and a carefully maintained water supply. There is no pool. There is no television. What there is: panoramic ocean and mountain views from every terrace, golden Andalucian light that changes colour by the hour, and a rare stillness.

THE GROUNDS

The land around Alma Azul is not a manicured garden. Pine trees and eucalyptus surround the property, alongside wild rosemary, rough Mediterranean scrub and the natural hillside plants that have always grown here. It is a genuine, untouched piece of Andalucian nature. The terraces are your cultivated space. The rest belongs to the mountain.

THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS

Mojacar Playa with its crystal-clear Mediterranean water, long sandy beaches, bars, restaurants and vibrant nightlife is just 5-10 minutes down the hill. Spend your mornings in birdsong and mountain silence. Spend your evenings barefoot on the beach with a glass of something cold.

WHAT IS AROUND YOU

The area around Alma Azul contains some of the most celebrated natural and cultural sites in Spain, most within 30 minutes.

Playa de los Muertos, voted Spain’s most beautiful beach and in The Guardian’s top 40 beaches in Europe, is 30 minutes away. Mojacar Pueblo, an official member of Los Pueblos Mas Bonitos de Espana, is 20 minutes up into the hills. Sopalmo, a tiny ancient hamlet beloved by artists and painters with a panoramic restaurant, is 15 minutes away. The Cabo de Gata-Nijar Natural Park, Europe’s only volcanic coastal park and a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, begins 15 minutes south.

Hiking trails leave directly from the property, climbing into the Sierra Cabrera with open ocean views. Ideal in spring and autumn. Mountain bikers can also use the same mountain roads.

WHEN TO COME

Summer: long days, warm evenings, the Mediterranean at its most vivid. Mojacar Playa is alive.

Spring and Autumn: hiking, cycling, Cabo de Gata without crowds. Warm enough for the terrace every day.

Winter: mild and quiet. Almeria has more sunshine hours than anywhere else in Europe.

ACCESS AND ARRIVAL

Alma Azul is reached via 2.5 km of unmade mountain road that winds up through the hills of the Sierra Cabrera with panoramic ocean views at every turn. It is a genuinely beautiful approach, but one that requires confidence on narrow, winding mountain roads. An SUV or higher-clearance vehicle is strongly recommended. Not suitable for those uncomfortable with steep or winding roads.
